Samsung company presents more powerful laptops

Samsung used its latest Unpacked to present the Galaxy S23, of course, but also its new laptops: the Galaxy Book 3, Book 3 Pro and Book 3 Ultra. A high-end iteration that shows how the manufacturer is moving towards more power.

Samsung is known for offering lightweight and easily portable laptops. However, in his time Unpacked 2023when it introduced the Galaxy S23, it also gave a glimpse into its computing vision with its new Galaxy Book 3 series. It consists of five references: the classic Book 3, also available on the 360, the Book 3 Pro, also available on the 360, and the new Book 3 Ultra available.

Galaxy Book 3 and Book 3 Pro, 360 or not

The first range has been known to us for some time. Again available in several models:

  • The 15.6-inch classic Galaxy Book 3
  • Galaxy Book 3 360, 13.3 and 15.6 inches
  • Galaxy Book 3 Pro, 14 and 16 inches
  • Galaxy Book 3 Pro 360, 14 and 16 inches

Considering the diagonal differences, we are already facing seven new Samsung computers. Almost all of them share the same technical structure.

The classic Galaxy Book 3 is the most discreet among all computers and barely appears in official company communications. It’s not even found on Samsung’s French website. It aims to be the most affordable model in the range and is the only model equipped with a 13th generation Intel Core i7 U, i.e. a processor mainly dedicated to the following. ultraportable. He will accompany him 16 GB of LPDDR5 RAM and 512 GB of storagebut makes a great sacrifice: his plate simple 60 Hz, Full HD IPS LCD.

This is a big difference, as the Galaxy Book 3 360 convertible, as the name suggests, is equipped with a slightly more powerful, but above all 13th generation Intel Core i5 P. 16:9 Super AMOLED panel As we are used to from Samsung. He has the ability to touch and compatible with the included S PenBut but remains at 60 Hz. Galaxy Book 3 360, with it 8 GB of RAM and 256 GB of main memory, may be the real gateway to the range in the public eye. Rest assured: we can easily choose a Core i7 P, 16 GB of RAM and 512 GB of storage.

The Pro models keep the Core i7 P in the base configuration, along with 16GB of RAM and 512GB of storage. The big difference is the screen. We have it 16:10 AMOLED panel supporting 120 Hz refresh rate. The 360 version is touch capable and again compatible with the S Pen.

We’re firmly in the forefront of high-end ultraportables, a category Samsung has been targeting since its launch… Except for the Galaxy Book 3, which looks very heavy (1.57 kg) and thick (1.54 cm) on paper. As said before, this reference seems like an ugly duckling indeed. Unfortunately, there is also one flaw that we wish would disappear: the very noticeable lower border of the screen. The disappointment is compounded when you look at each product’s starting price:

  • Galaxy Book 3 classic: 1299 euros
  • Galaxy Book 3 360: from 1399 euros
  • Galaxy Book 3 Pro: from 1,999 euros
  • Galaxy Book 3 Pro 360: from €2,199

Core prices at Samsung are rising this year, as they are throughout the high-tech market. But it seems difficult to justify the investment against classic Galaxy Book 3 and 360 competitors, especially at Dell. Of course, we will know for sure after the products are tested.

It will be available on Galaxy Book 3 From February 17, 2023, and take advantage of pre-order offers that give you access to higher storage at a lower price. In addition to the bonus for restoring the old device.

Galaxy Book 3 Ultra, power

Samsung’s real innovation for 2023 is the creation of a new “Ultra” range for its laptops, featuring Ultra smartphones in its range. The Galaxy Book 3 Ultra is a 16-inch computer offers a higher technical sheet than its smaller companions.

In the basic configuration, we are already in front of a The 13th generation Intel Core i7 H is paired with 32GB of RAM and 1TB of storage. But above all, we find a real GPU for the first time in the configuration of this series: NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4050. You can even upgrade this configuration to take advantage of the Core i9 H and RTX 4070.

The panel itself is still Dynamic AMOLED, which supports a 120 Hz refresh rate, however 2880 x 1800 pixel definition for 16:10 aspect ratio. Emphasizing that this computer is aimed at creative profiles, it promises to cover 120% of the DCI P3 area. On the connectivity side, it’s the same as the Pro versions with an HDMI port, microSD port, USB A 3.2 port, and inclusions. two 40 Gbps Thunderbolt 4 portsplus a combo jack port.

Of course, it differs in format, because such power must be effectively cooled. So here’s a Galaxy Book 3 Ultra weighing in 1.79 kg with a thickness of 1.65 cm.

Of course, there is also a difference in prices. The basic Core i7/GeForce RTX 4050 version of the Galaxy Book 3 Ultra will make a sound for you. €3,499, its higher version on Core i9 / RTX 4070 will cost 3,899 euros. Still From February 17 that we will be able to find these computers in France.

We still have a lot of questions about this new Galaxy Book 3 family. especially about their autonomy or thermal management. We’ve already noticed in the past that some Galaxy Book 2s don’t have enough cooling to keep them performing over time. We hope to see improvements in our future trials.
