With the support of the Ford Foundation (United States of America), the Villa Albertine implements a program aimed at promoting the circulation of African-American artists in France and the presentation of their works to the French public.
For several years, the Institut National d’histoire de l’Institut has been developing work on the theoretical issues of globalized art history and the renewal of related corpora.
These two institutions decided to join forces to provide scholarship in the field of African American art. Named after the artist Beauford Delaney (1901-1979), this fellowship is intended for art historical researchers, French, or expatriates based in France, who wish to conduct original research on African American art in the United States.
Research projects may focus on African-American artists without period limitation (19th-21st century) and should not exclude consideration of them in the context of global artistic and cultural practices by looking at circulations, transfers, and zones. transnational relations. Scholarship Features
Research grant Beauford Delaney – Villa Albertine it is intended to finance one laureate per year.
The laureate will receive a stipend of USD 20,000, which he must use within 18 months after the announcement of his selection, specifically to go to the field, that is, to study the holdings of archives, documentary funds, works. Artists, curators, art historians, collectors, etc. based in the United States and elsewhere in the world as needed. He undertakes to present a material product (article, book chapter, exhibition, book, doctoral dissertation) at the end of the fellowship year or during the year and to present the result of his research at the invitation of the institutions funding the project. (conference, debate, interview, etc.). The winner will be integrated into the Villa Albertine residency program in the USA during 2024.
If possible, INHA will host the fellow as a host researcher in accordance with the regulations in force at his institution and, if necessary, according to the schedule predetermined in the fellowship agreement between the winner or laureate and INHA.
This is a scholarship, not an employment contract. The pension does not exclude other sources of income. The winner undertakes to submit a report twelve months after receiving the scholarship to explain the use of the allocated funds. Institutions reserve the right to request a refund if the announced project cannot be implemented.

3.
