SEOUL, February 02. (Yonhap) — Samsung Electronics Co. unveiled the next series of its flagship Galaxy S smartphones on Wednesday in San Francisco (US time), as the tech giant faces tough economic conditions that prompt consumers to postpone discretionary purchases such as personal electronics.
Samsung, the world’s largest smartphone manufacturer, launched three Galaxy S23 series models namely the Galaxy S23, Galaxy S23 Plus and Galaxy S23 Ultra luxury models and the Galaxy Book3 notebooks during its Unpacked event at the Masonic Auditorium.
Due to the Covid-19 pandemic, the tech giant’s biennial Unpacked event has been held in person for the first time in three years.
Samsung introduced the capabilities of the photosensors that equip the new high-end Galaxy devices.
Ahead of the event, Roh Tae-mun, head of Samsung’s smartphone division (MX), said Samsung’s new smartphones will feature a camera system that “gets smarter, delivering the best photos and videos in all light conditions among our Galaxy smartphones.” .
According to Samsung, the Galaxy S23 Ultra has a 200-megapixel image sensor, which significantly improves image quality during night shots.
The sensor allows for easier focusing and faster shutter lag in low-light conditions, and captures more vivid colors, the company said.
According to Samsung, the latest S23 smartphones feature Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Gen 2, customized for Samsung’s Galaxy phones, which improves power efficiency and handles better AI and graphics features.
This is the first time Qualcomm has produced a bespoke SoC exclusively for an Android phone maker.
Samsung said that close collaboration with the San Diego chipmaker has resulted in an optimized and powerful chip for the Galaxy S23 series with 41% faster graphics processing speed and 40% neural processing capability. % higher than Galaxy S22 series.
The launch of the new product comes a day after the tech giant reported disappointing results for the fourth quarter of last year.
In the October-December 2022 period, Samsung’s operating profit fell 69 percent year-on-year to an eight-year low of 4.3 trillion won ($3.49 billion).
Samsung’s mobile business reported fourth-quarter revenue of 26.9 trillion won and operating profit of 1.7 trillion won.

Pre-orders in South Korea can be made from February 7 to 13, with prices starting at 1.15 million won for the S23, 1.35 million won for the Plus model, and 1.59 million won for the Ultra model.
Initially, Samsung will open dozens of “Galaxy Experience” locations around the world where customers can experience the new Galaxy gadgets.
Galaxy Experience locations and pop-up stores will open in San Francisco, London, Paris and Dubai.
