Specs, design and everything we know so far

The smartphone season of 2023 is well and truly underway and that means many Android phone manufacturers are launching their new flagships. Among them, Oppo, which is fighting for a place at the top of the list, will introduce its next high-end Find X series smartphone. What exactly can we expect? So far, we’ve gathered all the information from rumors and leaks and some official words from Oppo itself to bring you the full story.

MOBILE VIDEO OF THE DAY

Launch date and price?

  • 1st quarter of 2023
  • Probably around £1000/$1000

Recent rumors have suggested that we’ll see the Find X6 Pro launch sometime in the first quarter of 2023, and that’s what we’d expect based on what Oppo has done in previous years. The Find X5 Pro was launched in February/March 2022 and the Find X3 Pro was around a year ago at a similar time.

Like the two phones before it, the Find X6 Pro will be positioned at the top of the smartphone range and will likely be priced accordingly. Previous models were around £1,000/€1,000/$1,000 when they launched, although they’re a bit cheaper now that they’ve been on the market for a while.

Design and display

  • QHD+ display – refresh up to 120Hz
  • Probably the same as the OnePlus 11
  • Front and rear glass – large rectangular camera protrusion

If recent leaks are to be believed, the Find X6 Pro could be drastically different from its predecessors. While the Find X3 Pro and Find X5 Pro opted for a fairly slim and flawless camera body design on the back, the Find X6 Pro – unfortunately, seems to be the exact opposite.

Houseleaks

Leaked renders and actual images show the device with a huge rectangular camera unit located quite far from the back of the phone. On the Find X5 Pro, the curve rises from the same ceramic surface as the phone’s back, and it’s far from a seamless device. This is not a discrete device.

On the front, it’s said to feature a large QuadHD+ (“2K”) AMOLED display built with a next-generation LTPO panel for fast refresh rates and adaptive changes that are more responsive to those refresh rates. We expect it to be almost identical to the display used in the OnePlus 11 5G, which is already on sale in China.

Given how similar the Oppo Find X models are to OnePlus’ flagships, we expect it to have other similar (if not identical) capabilities. These include support for Dolby Vision and HDR10+ content, as well as a peak brightness of up to 1300 nits.

Hardware, Software and Battery Specifications

  • Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 – 8GB/12GB RAM – Up to 512GB storage
  • 5000mAh battery – 100W wired charging – 50W wireless charging
  • ColorOS 13 built on top of Android 13

There are a few details we can predict with some degree of certainty with the Oppo Find X6 Pro, and mostly because Oppo has confirmed it. We know that the phone will be one of the first Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 powered phones to hit the market. Oppo already announced this during its Snapdragon event at the end of 2022.

A long spec list leaked earlier in the rumor cycle suggested that this chipset would be paired with either 8GB or 12GB of RAM, and itself would come with 128GB, 256GB or 512GB of storage. Historically, the amount of RAM/storage has generally depended on the region it’s sold in, and we expect it to be the same this time around.

Like the OnePlus 11, it is said to have a large 5,000mAh battery with support for Oppo’s 100W SuperVOOC wired charging, which means it can be fully charged in less than 25 minutes. Unlike the OnePlus 11, this phone is said to have wireless charging capabilities. As with wired charging, it is expected to use a special fast charging protocol of up to 50W.

Fortunately, software is pretty easy to predict. We know that Oppo has already rolled out Android 13-based ColorOS 13 to a number of existing phones, and its next flagship phone will ship with the software out of the box. More importantly, Oppo has promised to support these phones with four major updates, which means that the Find X6 will be supported until the Android 17 update, which shouldn’t arrive before the end of 2027.

Cameras

  • 50MP triple system
  • 120x zoom function
  • ISP MariSilicon X 2 – Hasselblad Focus

One of the big news is that the camera gets a real upgrade this year. The three cameras on the back of the Find X6 Pro are said to be equipped with a 50-megapixel sensor.

The primary sensor is said to be a giant 1-inch type sensor like we saw on the Xiaomi 12S Ultra. If true, it certainly explains the prominent new design of the rear camera housing.

It’s also claimed that we’ll see a 50-megapixel ultra-wide camera and a 50-megapixel telephoto zoom camera that offers 3x optical zoom, although early rumors suggested we’d also see such a feature on Samsung’s S22 Ultra. you can zoom up to 120x digitally.

Other details are that the new version of the MariSilicon image processor is expected to do the heavy lifting when it comes to color, light and contrast processing, while Hasselblad’s color science will be used to bring them up to a defined standard.
