The six most anticipated smartphones of 2023

While we’re in for a few surprises, we already have an idea of what mobile phones will be the talk of the town in 2023. From the successors of very popular phones to the new models of certain brands, this year promises. be particularly dense in the jungle of smartphones. Let’s grab our machete to start clearing your way.

OnePlus 11

The OnePlus 11, made official on January 4, sets the ball rolling for high-end smartphones in 2023. This time, the Chinese brand wants to focus its efforts on one model, since there is no “OnePlus 11 Pro” in the game. In our opinion, it’s a good idea because the manufacturer needs to refocus to offer a phone with a strong personality that can stand out from the competition.

To achieve this, the OnePlus 11 relies on its unique design, characterized by a circular camera unit that hugs the frame of the smartphone. Popular button warning slider allowing you to switch between different sound modes is also a trademark that should return to this model after a noticeable absence on the OnePlus 10T.

Power has always been in the DNA of OnePlus smartphones. This 11th model will logically combine the best in the field: Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 chip from Qualcomm, 8 or 16 GB of RAM and UFS 4.0 memory chip for the version with 16 GB of RAM. On the photography side, the manufacturer is renewing its partnership with Hasselblad and is working on a 50 Mpx camera module with a 1-inch sensor to let in more light and thus improve the quality of the shots.

Finally, autonomy will be provided by a 5000 mAh battery and fast charging with a 100 W block. High, but more classic technical sheet. We hope that the OnePlus 11 will be chosen at its price to regain this status “Flagship Killer” that the previous models, in our opinion, lost a little. We can’t wait to try everything.

Galaxy S23, S23 Plus and S23 Ultra

On February 1, Samsung will present its next high-end smartphones. However, products have become the subject of many leaks » somewhat spoils the surprise effect.

For example, press renders were shared that revealed the design of three models. From this point of view, no serious change can be expected. The “Ultra” model follows the line of its predecessor. The “Classic” and “Plus” versions already change the photo modules directly on the back and vertically “placed”.

In terms of technical characteristics, we find the main high-end chip of 2023: Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 from Qualcomm. The latter, however, could have been optimized especially for the Galaxy S23. Good news considering the disappointing performance of the Exynos versions that powered the Galaxy S22 with us.

Samsung will also step up its game a bit on the autonomy side by increasing the battery capacity of its three models. However, don’t expect ultra-fast charging. A 45W charger is listed for certain models only.

On the photo side, once again, Samsung smartphones can stand out. The Galaxy S23 Ultra is expected to have a new 200-megapixel module equipped with an ISOCELL HP2 sensor. It promises high flights, especially in low light. The bad news will come from upwardly variable prices.

Xiaomi 13 and 13 Pro

Xiaomi 13 and 13 Pro, which were made official in China last December, are still waiting for us. The two phones show a design reminiscent of Apple and Samsung products… In addition to aesthetic considerations, the Xiaomi 13 is equipped with everything that makes a high-end smartphone in 2023: a large AMOLED 120 Hz screen compatible with HDR10+ and Dolby Vision. , Snapdragon 8 Gen 2, all accompanied by 8 or 12 GB of RAM and (finally) IP68 waterproof certification on both models.

The 6.3-inch format of the Xiaomi 13 makes it a relatively compact phone. It is equipped with a 4500 mAh battery, which the manufacturer declares to be very durable. Its 67W charger can charge the phone in just 38 minutes. The good news is that 50W wireless charging will also be included, and it will only take 10 minutes to charge the phone. The whole thing weighs 189 grams, which will make your pockets happy.

In turn, the Xiaomi 13 Pro has a larger 6.7-inch screen. It benefits from a 4,820mAh battery as well as 120W wired charging as well as the same 50W wireless charging. 19 minutes and 36 minutes to find 100% battery by wire” wireless “.

On the photography side, the classic model comes with a 50 Mpix main module, a 12-megapixel ultra-wide-angle and a 10-megapixel telephoto lens for x3 optical zoom. The Xiaomi 13 Pro is slightly better equipped at this point with three 50 Mpix modules, so the main module benefits from a 1-inch sensor. Xiaomi and Leica are now partners, which should allow the Chinese giant to benefit from the expertise of the famous German optics and camera brand.

Google Pixel 8 and 8 Pro

In 2022, Google made a big splash with the Pixel 7 and Pixel 7 Pro. High-end smartphones offer simply incredible quality-photo-price ratio, all sprinkled with new software features that are the secret of the American giant. To say we’re excited to see what the Pixel 8 and 8 Pro has in store for us is therefore an understatement.

The phones expected in the fall of 2023 are still a long way off, and so far we know very little about them. However, we can safely assume that they will benefit from a new chip developed by Google, probably the “Tensor G3”. Like its predecessors, the SoC will not play the power card, but software optimization, especially in terms of photography.

On the upgrade side, we hope for better sound quality for the speakers, increased autonomy and, finally, fast charging. Google Pixel 7 Pro takes 1 hour 40 minutes to fully charge. A result unworthy of a high-end Android smartphone today.

We will also see if Google decides to change the photo modules or if the brand can still take a step forward in photography using image processing algorithms.

Oppo Find X6 and X6 Pro

Oppo Find x5 Pro was one of the most loved smartphones of 2022. Logically, we look forward to his successor. We still know very little about the upcoming high-end smartphones from Oppo, except that they will pack a punch in photography and video. To do this, the Chinese brand will rely on a 1-inch 50 Mpx sensor like the Xiaomi 13 Pro. Each manufacturer’s software optimization will then make a difference.

There are rumors that Oppo may consider the design of the Find X6 and X6 Pro, especially at the level of camera modules, which will no longer be attached directly to smartphones, but in a more classic camera unit. However, this remains to be confirmed as information about them is minimal.

We should find the MariSilicon X display processor or its successor supporting the high-end SoC in the phones. Oppo may launch its own smartphone processor this year. The Chinese brand also introduced a new audio chip last December to improve the quality of its ecosystem. Called MariSilicon Y, this chip allows Oppo smartphones and headphones to work together (do you have one?) and thus improve sound quality.

iPhone 15, 15 Plus, 15 Pro, 15 Ultra

2023 should be a particularly interesting year for iPhones in more ways than one. The first reason is due to the arrival of USB-C to the iPhone 15 under the European restriction. The technology of the future that Apple will finally embrace after resisting for too long (not).

Another expected innovation is the possible arrival of “Dynamic island” not only in “Pro” models, but in the entire range. Something to make different models a little more compatible in terms of design and not give the impression of having an “old” smartphone after spending more than 1000 euros on the latest model.

This year may also mark the arrival of the iPhone 15 Ultra. After the Apple Watch Ultra and the upcoming M2 Ultra, Samsung may replace its Pro Max model with the iPhone 15 Ultra. In this version, Apple would maximize all sliders to justify its name and price. So, we could only find a titanium body and even more muscular camera modules in this model.

Another rumor that may seem fanciful, but should not be ignored: an iPhone 15 model without a physical button. Apple would replace them with responsive buttons and a new vibration motor to control the phone. This will especially offer better water resistance.

What about the others?

Opt-out. That’s why we couldn’t place all the models we expected this year. Other smartphones are catching our eye over the next few months, such as the Google Pixel Fold, which will be the Mountain View firm’s first foldable smartphone and will compete directly with the Galaxy Z Fold 4.

Since we are talking about Samsung, we can’t wait to see how the Korean giant will react to the arrival of smartphones that are competing globally. We are especially looking forward to the more successful version of the Galaxy Z Flip (5). A special mention for the successor to the best compact smartphone of 2022, the Asus ZenFone 9.

In the mid-range, we’re also looking forward to the Google Pixel 7a, which promises to be the best photo-price ratio on the market, or the Samsung Galaxy A54, which should sell like hotcakes.
