Real Madrid: news and form

Carlo Ancelotti’s side have two wins and two losses in the league. Losing six valuable points in the fight for the championship, Real is now three points behind Barcelona in second place. However, their start to the season was excellent, with the Merengues winning the European Super Cup against Frankfurt (2-0) in mid-August and going on a 16-game unbeaten run until October 25 (2-3 in Leipzig).

The defeat at Rayo Vallecano (2-3) was thought to be due to the fact that the ceasefire had been reached and the pace of the football players had dropped as they prepared to go to Qatar. Not so. After reconciliation with two wins over Valladolid (2-0) in La Liga and Cacereno (1-0) in the Copa del Rey, Madrid fell into the trap at Villarreal and lost again (2-1). With two games left in the new cup, Madrid must be more serious if they want to defend their title.

Valencia: relevance and form

For several seasons now, Valens have become a middling club, with performances too irregular to qualify for European competition. Even today, Murcielagos are stuck in the soft underbelly of La Liga. Valencia, 11th with 19 points after 16 days, are closer to the relegation zone (four points ahead of 18th) than places in Europe (eight points behind sixth).

The truce has so far not been beneficial for Gattuso’s players. Despite two unbeaten runs in November, the Blanquinegros have lost two La Liga games since the restart: 1-2 at Villarreal and 0-1 at Cadiz. In the Copa del Rey, Valencia will at least have a 3-0 win over third division club La Nucia.

Real, always ready for a successful trophy, have won two of the last three editions of this Spanish Super Cup. So, we believe that Real will advance to the final without too much trouble against a poor Valencia team.

These two teams are not known for their defensive toughness, with just 3 points each in their 16 matches in La Liga. Apart from Castillejo from the Valencia side, no strikers are missing. So we expect goals from both sides.
