Dear Samsung, this is what we want to see in your smartphones in 2023

There will be many challenges for Samsung in 2023. Based on the information we received, as well as our expectations, we prepared an article summarizing everything we can expect from the Korean giant in 2023.

Year after year, Samsung holds the helm and continues to maintain its position as the number one seller of smartphones. 2022 has just ended and it’s time for us to turn our attention to the challenges that lie ahead for the Korean giant. An opportunity for Frandroid to share its expectations with you as well.

Snapdragon is finally and in prospect a very good vintage for the Galaxy S

This is our biggest expectation for Samsung in 2023. Finally! Finally, Samsung has decided to match its best-equipped range by offering a single SoC worldwide. At least, that’s what multiple statements from Samsung and Qualcomm officials suggest.

Because between Exynos and Snapdragon, Suwon would have made the right choice in our opinion, because it is Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 that will power all Samsung Galaxy S23s. Given the debacle of the Exynos 2200, which racked up screen issues across the board during the phone’s launch, it’s easy to think that the Galaxy S23 would benefit from the better of the two chips.

Another recurring concern seems to have been resolved for this new iteration of the Galaxy S. Samsungs have a reputation for lacking a bit of autonomy. Both the Galaxy S22 and Galaxy S22 Plus should both get 200mAh more. In addition, Samsung officials mentioned that battery life should be a priority for the brand. It is enough to hope for sincere progress on this front.

If we add to this the potential new design of the two main models, which will match the Galaxy S22 Ultra and therefore the S23 Ultra, with the photo unit removed, we risk getting a very good vintage for the high Galaxy range this year.

Prove that 200MP is worth something

One point worth dwelling on: Samsung is almost alone in taking the hard-to-understand route. While Oppo, OnePlus, Google or Apple have around 50 Mpx, Samsung has to sign its first phone with a 200 megapixel sensor.

Considering what this brings to the Motorola Edge 30 Ultra, the first phone equipped with such a sensor, or even the Xiaomi 12T Pro, it is advisable to be cautious in the interest of such technology. However, some leaks suggest that we could still see significant improvements in the level of detail or even night mode. We’re just waiting for Samsung to prove us wrong. Answer in February.

Continue to perform updates

If Samsung has achieved anything in 2022, it will undoubtedly establish itself as the leader of the major update in Android. Already over time, it announced in February that it would switch to four-year-old Android flagships, but also on mid-range devices like the Galaxy A53 and A33. On Android, it’s very simple, nobody does it. However, we note that OnePlus has adapted itself to this four-year period, but only for this flagships. Even Google stuck with Android for three years for its Pixels.

Even the Galaxy A13 5G switched to One UI 5 by the end of the year.

That would have been enough to make us happy, but Samsung decided to kill the game by rolling out One UI 5 (Android 13) even to a large part of its fleet by the end of 2022, starting an open release. Also, keep in mind that while One UI 4 started deploying in November 2021, One UI 5 started the ball rolling in October. It doesn’t seem like much, but the wait between the August release on Pixels and their availability on Samsung tends to decrease significantly.

To finish this topic, as you know, journalists talk about late trains more than trains that arrive on time. Likewise, it’s worth emphasizing that One UI 5’s launch is in no way marred by bugs. Great performance at all levels.

Move around in folding chairs

Here, the competition finally decides to come out of the woodwork on foldable smartphones. Samsung will have to compete against the Honor Magic Vs or Oppo Find N2 Flip which will be launched in Europe in 2023.

Let’s face it, Samsung is so far ahead of everyone else in this regard that it’s unlikely to worry anymore this year. But we can only hope that after a generation or two of fine-tuning, they’ll be ready to pull genuine innovations out of their folder hats, no doubt motivated by the previous era. If not, it’s safe to say that Samsung’s monopoly on folders will soon be under attack.

The average should reach as high as 2022

If you’re into new technologies, you probably can’t ignore more of the latest high-end finds and more affordable devices. Also, when it comes to actually buying something, the entry and average price suddenly becomes more attractive (wonder why…). Most of the manufacturers’ profits are generated here.

With its reputation, a giant like Samsung can be content with releasing average phones that work more or less. So, of course, considering the size of their fleet, there are big losses like the Galaxy M13 4G. However, the middle range of the Korean manufacturer defends itself well and even very well. The Galaxy A33 is one of the best €300 phones on the market, and the Galaxy A53 is just one of the four 9/10s we’ve awarded as smartphones this year because it equals or even surpasses the top. range in several points such as screen or autonomy.

As you can see, therefore, we expect Samsung not to rest on its laurels in this very important price segment. From the first elements that reached us on the Galaxy A54, it seems that the phone has not changed much. Let’s hope it gets a little more power, as that was one of the only faults of its predecessor.
