the high-end smartphone is now official

The much-anticipated OnePlus 11 is out of the box. Officially released in China, it promises to be one of the most powerful smartphones of 2023.

OnePlus is already focused on 2023 and will not launch any smartphone. After weeks of waiting and teasing, the brand is lifting the lid on the OnePlus 11 5G. This high-end smartphone comes on its own, succeeding the OnePlus 10 Pro and ditching the Pro designation. A strong choice from OnePlus, which, far from offering the top of the range at a discount, is quite the opposite.

OnePlus 11 unveils a new design marked by the presence of a circular photo unit. It integrates with the smartphone somewhat like Samsung’s Galaxy S22 and away from the rectangular look of its predecessor. The front offers fewer surprises with a curved display protected by Gorilla Glass Victus. In the upper left corner, we still find a bump when the warning slider returns. Recall that this important small key of OnePlus smartphones disappeared on the OnePlus 10T. It allows you to quickly switch between silent, vibrate and ringtone modes.

A very powerful smartphone

The premium OnePlus 11 logically promises to be one of the best performing smartphones of 2023. This aspect is a priority for the brand, which incorporates Qualcomm’s latest Snapdragon 8 Gen 2. The powerful chip comes with 12-16 GB of RAM (LPDDR5X) and 256 or 512 GB of storage. As expected, the smartphone is equipped with UFS 4.0 flash memory to improve performance. Such a configuration will not face great difficulties in everyday work; and more are games where OnePlus hopes to differentiate itself.

On the display side, we stay in line with the previous model with a 6.7-inch Samsung E4 AMOLED panel with a resolution of 1440 x 3216 pixels. The refresh rate goes up to 120 Hz and we have LTPO 3.0 technology. The certified Dolby Vision and HDR10+ display claims a maximum brightness of 1,300 nits, and as a result falls short of some newer smartphones. For example, we consider the Xiaomi 13 Pro, which claims 1900 nits of brightness.

The photo part is more advanced without offering a real revolution. The OnePlus 11 retains a triple-sensor setup with support from photography specialist Hasselblad. It includes a 50-megapixel Sony IMX890 primary sensor supported by an optical image stabilization system (OIS). It accompanies a 48-megapixel IMX581 ultra-wide-angle lens and a 32-megapixel IMX709 telephoto lens with 2x optical zoom.

Fans of the brand will note that this last module increases in definition compared to the OnePlus 10 Pro, but the latter offered optical zoom up to x3.3. On the other hand, OnePlus touts its new telephoto as a portrait specialist. There is a 16-megapixel selfie camera on the front.

Finally, there is a 5000 mAh battery compatible with 100 W wired fast charging. According to the manufacturer, it takes only 10 minutes to restore 50% autonomy, and 25 minutes to fully charge. Connectivity is modern (5G, wifi 6, Bluetooth 5.3) and the device measures 163.1 x 74.1 x 8.53 mm for 205 grams.

Price, availability and release date in France

The announcement is currently only for the Chinese market. Indeed, we have to wait until February 7 for the global launch of OnePlus 11 5G and Buds Pro 2. Notably, the latter are also certified as offering noise reduction, spatial audio, and up to 39 hours of battery life.

Meanwhile, the OnePlus 11 prices in China are:

  • 12 GB RAM + 256 GB storage: 3999 yuan (about 550 euros excluding tax)
  • 16 GB RAM + 256 GB storage: 4399 yuan (about 600 euros excluding tax)
  • 16 GB RAM + 512 GB storage: 4899 yuan (about 670 euros excluding tax)

The main surprise is that the smartphone is more affordable than its predecessor. Indeed, the OnePlus 10 Pro started at 4,699 yuan, or about 645 euros before tax. It remains to be seen the prices in euros, which will obviously be higher. We remember that the OnePlus 10 Pro was launched at 919 euros. At the time, it was slightly more affordable than some smartphones from Samsung, Apple or Oppo.
