mobile versions of the new RTX 40X0s are coming

Nvidia promises more powerful and less greedy portable cards to please gamers and creators.

After the release of the next-generation Nvidia RTX 40X0 graphics cards last October, the green giant is now using CES to formalize the mobile versions of these components. From the RTX 4050 to the monstrous RTX 4090, the entire range will be transferred.

The brand begins by extolling the virtues of its new Ada Lovelace architecture. One of its main arguments is a significant increase in energy performance.

This is a point that weighs particularly heavy in the portable ecosystem, where battery size and especially temperature management are key constraints. On paper, we can therefore expect that the portable versions of the RTX 40X0s can achieve comparable performance to the previous generation models with a significantly lower power budget.

In practice, Nvidia uses these cards as “ consumes three times less energy more than adults. A loud figure that should be taken with a grain of salt, but at least it allows us to hope for cars with more reasonable consumption than in the past (all things considered). Will 2023 finally be the year of competitive autonomous gaming laptops outside of gaming? It’s too early to tell, but this new generation is probably coming.

Laptops are more powerful than ever

On the other hand, the communique also gives another interesting detail; the statement suggests that this new architecture will make it much easier to integrate custom cards into 14-inch models. It was a segment that tended to be a bit neglected at this level due to the huge thermal limitations imposed by the small size of these machines. But thanks to the power and thermal performance of the RTX 40X0, we can expect to see many new models with dedicated graphics hardware.

But the main argument of these new components obviously remains raw power, especially in RTX technology. Nvidia claims that the raytracing performance of the new portable models is up to 4 times higher than the 30X0 generation. Currently, it is enough to enjoy the ideal graphics quality in the most demanding AAA games.

And even for those who are not used to using this feature, the benefit should be enough. According to the brand, even the “small” RTX 4050 will allow you to enjoy AAA titles in 1440p format at 80 frames per second. With two giants in the RTX series, the 4080 and 4090, it will be possible to power even three 4K displays simultaneously, all at 60 frames per second! A waking dream for fans of ultra-realistic simulations like FlightSimulator or rFactor 2.

Blessed bread to the creators

Developers are worried, especially those who work with programs that support raytracing. The press release specifically focuses on performance in Blender; apparently these cards were able to rotate the renders” it used to take two and a half hours for just 10 minutes “.

Again, this is a carefully selected sample and does not necessarily represent average earnings; but it shows that Nvidia is paying special attention to the optimization of these processes.

The American giant closes its announcement by announcing the fifth generation Max-Q technology. On the menu: improved support for the latest generation of graphics memory (GDDR6), a radical increase in bandwidth and a new microcontroller ” dynamically switch to faster and less power consuming memory states “. Nvidia also announces improvements to the DLSS 3 sample system.

The new notebook models equipped with these GeForce RTX 40X0 graphics cards will be available from February 8. Logically, we should find some of all the major manufacturers.
