Ter Stegen 4th, Dembele 2nd… FC Barcelona’s 5 best players right now
FC Barcelona had arguably the best transfer window of any club in Europe. Despite the financial crisis, the Catalans were able to employ several economic levers that freed up funds.
Having finished second in La Liga last season, 13 points behind reigning champions Real Madrid, the Blaugrana are determined to challenge for the title this year. Xavi Hernandez gave them exciting football and we are starting to see the Barcelona of yesterday.
The team is full of extremely talented players and there is a lot of competition for starting spots. Without further ado, let’s take a look at Barcelona’s top five players (September 2022).
#5 Rafinha
Raphinha has been a very good signing for FC Barcelona. After struggling to find his rhythm in the first two games against Rayo Vallecano and Real Sociedad, Raphinha has returned to his best in recent weeks.
He performed impressively against Real Valladolid, Sevilla and Cadiz. Rafinha was especially threatening on the wing in the games with Valladolid and Sevilla. His dribbling ability and quickness have given La Liga defenders a hard time so far.
Since the beginning of the season, Rafinha has scored 1 goal and provided one assist in 5 games in La Liga.
#4 Marc-Andre ter Stegen
After a couple of disappointing campaigns, Marc-Andre ter Stegen is back to his best. The German goalkeeper has distinguished himself by scoring 4 goals in 6 games in La Liga and the Champions League since the beginning of the season. He has conceded just two goals since the start of the season.
He has made a number of impressive saves this season. Ter Stegen’s distribution is also excellent and he has a success rate of 88.9% this season.
The 33-year-old has been a reliable presence between the posts at Barcelona so far and Xavi will be hoping to continue in the same vein.
#3 Pedri
FC Barcelona’s young midfielder Pedri continues to gain momentum. He had a great start to the 2022-23 campaign and was a difference-maker in midfield for the Catalans. The 19-year-old football player bravely controlled the “Barcelona” midfielder.
He produced quality performances against Real Sociedad, Real Valladolid, Sevilla and Victoria Plzen. Pedri is best when used in a more advanced role, as the offensive aspects of his game such as dribbling, vision and passing are more refined than his defensive abilities.
The young midfielder has scored one goal in six games in all competitions since the start of the season.
#2 Ousmane Dembele
Ousmane Dembele’s contract extension is undoubtedly a great decision for FC Barcelona. If he can avoid injury, Dembele has the potential to become one of the best strikers of the modern era.
The two-way winger is a dangerous presence on Barca’s flanks. His fine dribbling and decision-making in the final third helped the Catalans a lot. He beats defenders at will and excels at spotting teammates in tight spots.
The 25-year-old football player has scored 2 goals and 4 assists in 6 games in all competitions for “Barcelona” since the beginning of the season.
#1 Robert Lewandowski
There was little doubt about Robert Lewandowski’s success at Barça. The Polish international has won the European Golden Boots for the past two seasons in a row and is undoubtedly one of the best strikers in the world.
Lewandowski excelled at the Camp Nou and showed everyone what Barca have been missing since the departure of Luis Suarez. He has been in excellent form, scoring nine goals and providing two assists in just six games in all competitions since the start of the season.
Lewandowski is an elite and versatile striker whose technical skills also help bring out the best in his fellow strikers.
